Offered Services

Prenatal Care

Scheduled prenatal visit starting as early as 12 weeks. Typical schedule is every 4 weeks up to 28 weeks, every 2 weeks up to 36 weeks, and then weekly until birth. Frequency can be adjusted based on individual needs.

Typical length of visits are about 45min-1 hour which covers gestation appropriate education/teaching, questions, and a hands on assessment of vital signs, fetal heart rate, fetal position, and fundal height measurement.

I absolutely love involving all members of the family (partner's and kids etc.) to the extent they desire to be involved and am flexible on working with timing of visit to best facilitate this.

Birth

I am available by text or phone throughout your pregnancy for any questions/issues and am on call and prepared from weeks 37-42 to come to your birth.

Most babies come prior to 42 weeks but I work with you and suggest ways to encourage labor once we pass 41 weeks.

I typically work with another midwife or an RN assist for the birth itself and immediate postpartum care.

I do ofter water-birthing options and typically I have a birth pool available for rental if desired.

Again, I love involving your family and friends to the extent desired by you and them - partner, kids, extended family members, doula, birth photographer etc.

Helping fathers catch their babies is one of my biggest not so secret joys!

Postpartum Care

I generally stay a minimum of 2-3 hours in the immediate postpartum. This is adjusted based on individual needs but essentially I stay until I'm assured both mom and baby are stable and transition well.

My postpartum care includes an in person check-up on mom and baby at: 1 day, 4 days, 10-14 days, 3 weeks, and 6 weeks. Again, visits are adjusted and can be more frequent if needed for any issues/concerns.

Typically there are multiple telephone check-ups as well around 2-3 days, 1 week and in the event of any questions or concerns.

I do offer newborn screenings at 1 day and 10-14 days, congenital heart disease screening at 1 day, and information on where to schedule a hearing screening.

Lactation Support

I am NOT a lactational consultant and do not have certifications in this area.

What I DO HAVE is over 16 years of experience helping a great many (estimation would be easily over 1000) women with nursing and breastfeeding.

My priority is skin to skin care immediately after birth and encouragement for baby to latch and nurse as soon as possible and within the 1st hour.

I evaluate baby's latch and weight gain closely in the early postpartum period and can offer suggestions, help and resources regarding latch, nursing positions, other nursing concerns and issues surrounding tongue/lip ties.

Family Planning Counseling

I include family planning counseling/teaching in my 3 week or 6 week follow up with all families during the postpartum period.

I am knowledgeable and able to talk through all the different family planning options including permanent, hormonal, barrier, and natural family planning methods. I tailor my education to each women and family's unique needs and desires with a goal of empowering each to make an informed decision.

I am not able to prescribe or place IUDs etc. but I have contacts I provide and resources to suggest for accessing the desired family planning method.

Insurances/Costs

I accept some insurances including NM Centennial plans. Coverage for services varies by each insurance company. I always recommend you ask your insurance company directly about coverage.

I work individually with each family as needed regarding individual payment plans and sliding scales so please reach out even if the fees seem daunting.

Total fees for prenatal care, birth, postpartum care and newborn care: $4,000.

What this includes:

  • $350 registration fee. Because my practice is small this reserves your place in my practice and helps me purchase needed supplies and cover travel/gas during your prenatal period.

  • 3,650 inclusive fee which covers all prenatal care, care during your labor/birth, payment for an assist at your birth, supplies for your birth, newborn care and screenings, as well postpartum care through the 1st 6 weeks.

  • Fully payment due by 36 weeks unless other agreements made.

Labs and ultrasounds are billed directly to your insurance. If you are self-pay, those costs will need to be covered by you. I will work with you to find the most affordable way.
